PRIX ITALIA 2011 – History on show

The 63rd Edition of “PRIX ITALIA” will be in Turin, from 18th to 23rd September 2011

Prix Italia, the most oldest and prestigious contest dedicated to the radio, TV and web, promotes quality, innovation and creativity of TV programs and web contents. Turin is waiting for more than 90 worldwide radio and Tv organizations coming from the public and private sector.

During the show, at the RAI stand placed in Via Verdi nr.16, it will be presented the virtual Avatar of the ATLAS project  (Automatic Translation into Sign Language) on the multimedia Omegabox platform. The project was developed by the “Centro Ricerche RAI” of Turin with the collaboration of a lot of partners, including ALTO Sistemi, a Teoresi Group company.

Within ATLAS, ALTO Sistemi worked on the integration of the technological aspects developed during the project on a platform for the DDT world, in order to enable the access of multimedia content to the deafs, through the automatic translation in LIS (Italian Sign Language) by a virtual actor.
The translation is obtained using a 3D rendering engine that sends in real time the necessary command to the virtual actor.

There are 4 different kinds of services, useful to the comprehension of the multimedia contents:

  • Live Translation - real time translation of Tv programs;
  • TvOnDemand - translation of contents, constantly updated on a LIS services portal;
  • Lis training - selection and translation of the available words in a LIS database;
  • DVDPlayer - translation in LIS of DVD content.
