Formula SAE is an international university competition in which teams of students design, develop and build prototype racing vehicles, which are assessed through technical evaluations and on-track tests.
Over the years, the competition has given us a direct view of the university environment, the motorsport ecosystem and the evolution of skills within the sector. Technical expertise, teamwork and design capabilities become tangible here: they take shape in the vehicle, are reflected in development decisions and are ultimately put to the test.
Formula SAE holds value for us on several levels. It is an environment in which many areas of engineering applied to motorsport come together within a single project: software, electronics, control systems, data, embedded systems, connectivity, simulation and validation.
Each prototype requires a comprehensive perspective: the individual components must communicate with one another and be designed, integrated and verified as part of a coherent system.
It is precisely within this complexity that the educational and design value of the experience emerges. Formula SAE encourages participants to collaborate, share expertise, integrate different perspectives and combine creativity, technical knowledge and reliability.
For us, its value also lies in the opportunity to observe innovation as it becomes a real project and to identify talented people who can approach complex challenges with method, responsibility and a strong team spirit.
Since 2016, we have presented the “Electronics Development Process: Innovative Controls, Methods and Architectures” Award, dedicated to vehicle electronics development and to the most innovative solutions in control systems, development methods and electronic architectures.
