ENVELOPE

5G and 6G for Connected and Autonomous Mobility

ENVELOPE

5G and 6G for Connected and Autonomous Mobility

Project Overview

ENVELOPE is a European project focused on the development and testing of 5G/6G platforms and services for connected and autonomous mobility.

The project explores how advanced networks, vehicles, data and urban infrastructure can work together to enable new smart mobility services, from cooperative driving and road safety to real-time information management.

Teoresi participates as a technical partner, contributing its expertise in smart mobility and two prototypes of connected and autonomous city cars designed to collect environmental data and interact with urban infrastructure.

Scenario

Urban mobility is evolving through the adoption of autonomous vehicles, intelligent infrastructure, next-generation mobile networks and data collection systems.

In this context, 5G connectivity enables vehicles to exchange data in real time with the surrounding environment, other vehicles and infrastructure. ENVELOPE tests services that integrate advanced connectivity, sensing technologies and digital platforms.

The Italian pilot takes place in Turin and focuses on connected and autonomous mobility applications, including accident reconstruction through sensor data and real-time map updates for autonomous vehicles.

Challenges
  • Integrating autonomous vehicles, 5G/6G networks, data and urban infrastructure into a single testing ecosystem.
  • Collecting and processing real-time data through vehicle-mounted sensors, cameras, LiDAR, radar and GPS.
  • Enabling connected mobility scenarios based on communication between vehicles, infrastructure and digital platforms.
  • Testing services in an urban environment, measuring their effectiveness and preparing the final demonstration phase of the project.
Excellence

Teoresi contributes to ENVELOPE through its expertise in connected and autonomous mobility, providing two prototypes of autonomous and connected city cars for the Italian pilot in Turin.

The vehicles are equipped with HD cameras, LiDAR, radar and GPS, enabling real-time data collection from the surrounding environment. The information is combined through sensor fusion techniques to digitally reconstruct what happens around the vehicle.

Teoresi’s contribution also includes the validation of connected mobility services, technical coordination with European partners and preparation of the demonstrator tests planned for the final phase of the project.

Impact

ENVELOPE contributes to the development of new services for connected and autonomous urban mobility, demonstrating how vehicles, advanced networks, data and infrastructure can interact in a coordinated way.

Expected outcomes include the use of 5G and 6G connectivity for practical applications such as real-time updates of autonomous vehicle maps and accident reconstruction through onboard sensor data.

The Turin pilot will represent a key opportunity to observe how these technologies can enable new models of intelligent, cooperative and data-driven mobility in a real urban environment.
