From October 20 to 23, Teoresi Group participated in TEEM 2026, the international conference dedicated to technological innovation and research, held this year in Porto, Portugal.
During the session Integrating Next-Generation Technologies in Multicultural Health Sciences, Gerardo Amato, Innovation Leader at Teoresi Group, presented the research paper “Simulation-Driven Design of a Patient-Specific Cervical Orthosis Integrating Immobilization and Controlled Rotational Recovery”.
The research, developed through an international scientific collaboration and building on laboratory activities conducted by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) at the University of Salamanca, proposes an approach to the design of personalized cervical orthoses.
By combining 3D anatomical modeling, structural simulation and topology optimization, the study explores the potential to develop devices that integrate immobilization with progressive recovery of movement through a mechanism that allows controlled cervical rotation.
TEEM provided an opportunity to engage with the international scientific community and exchange insights on emerging technologies applied to healthcare.
What were the most interesting takeaways from this experience?
„One of the most valuable aspects was the opportunity to meet new researchers and engage directly with our partners on shared research topics. TEEM is a conference that encourages dialogue and helps build relationships between research groups. We had the chance to explore ongoing activities in biomedical engineering, including discussions with researchers from the University of Salamanca, and learn about projects that could open up new opportunities for collaboration.“
Which technologies and research areas particularly caught your attention?
„Several interesting topics emerged, particularly the use of virtual reality for healthcare professionals‘ training and its potential applications in rehabilitation. We also explored projects combining sensors and gamification to support motor function recovery, alongside applications of artificial intelligence, biomedical imaging and 3D printing.
Another area of great interest is robotics applied to surgery and the development of exoskeletons, fields where established scientific collaborations are already in place.“
What is the value of these experiences for Teoresi’s Innovation activities?
„Certainly, the opportunity to present the results of our research is important, but so is the value of exchanging knowledge and perspectives with people from different backgrounds and areas of expertise.
We return from Porto with new ideas, contacts and potential opportunities for future collaboration. Dialogue with universities and research centers is essential to explore new technological applications and identify opportunities for development in biomedical engineering.“
