On June 26–27, Teoresi MedTech will take part in the 20th edition of R2B – Research to Business, the International Exhibition of Research and Skills for Innovation, held at BolognaFiere with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
This event is a key opportunity to connect research, institutions, startups, and companies. Teoresi MedTech will share some of the research and development activities that are currently shaping our vision of innovation in digital health, cybersecurity, and sustainability applied to industrial and agricultural systems.
Three active research streams at Teoresi MedTech:
1. AI for predictive maintenance
Teoresi MedTech has developed artificial intelligence-based solutions for monitoring and predictive diagnostics in industrial environments. At the heart of this approach is the proprietary SPS sensor, entirely designed in-house (hardware, software, and mechanical components). The sensor collects data from accelerometers, magnetometers, temperature and humidity sensors, and microphones, and transmits it via Wi-Fi or LTE. It also features an energy harvesting system that powers the device using heat generated by the monitored machinery — an innovation patented by Simotop. Antonio Cancilla, R&D Product Specialist, is one of the key contributors to this project and has overseen its development within Teoresi MedTech’s activities.
2. A complete cybersecurity workflow
Cybersecurity is now a fundamental requirement for every connected device, particularly in the medical field. The project developed by Gaia Di Federico, R&D Electronic Engineer – Medical Device Industry, defines an end-to-end cybersecurity workflow for connected devices, in compliance with the latest European regulations: the Cyber Resilience Act (EU Regulation 2024/2847) and MDR 2017/745 for medical devices. The workflow integrates both hardware functions (encryption, secure key management) and software features (secure boot, secure updates, data and communication protection), following a security-by-design approach based on the IEC 81001-5-1 standard.
3. FACT – Future of the Agricultural Tractors
FACT is a European project co-funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region, aimed at transforming agricultural vehicles into intelligent, sustainable, and digitized systems. Teoresi MedTech leads a consortium that includes MISTER Smart Innovation, IN4 (University of Ferrara), InterMech Lab (UNIMORE), CNR-STEMS, and companies such as Simotop, Emak, and Ferri. The project involves the creation of a virtual and experimental laboratory to design and validate next-generation tractors equipped with advanced sensors and Digital Twin technologies, with the goal of optimizing performance, reducing energy waste, and improving safety and comfort for operators. Domenico Zaottini, Product Specialist, is Teoresi MedTech’s voice within the project, contributing to its technological and strategic evolution.
R2B 2025 will also be an opportunity to share these experiences with the innovation community and to present two demos developed in collaboration with the Innovation Team of Teoresi Group:
– one focused on drowsiness detection, designed to monitor alertness in critical scenarios;
– and one on AI-based telerehabilitation, a real-time monitoring system that provides patients with immediate and precise feedback during rehabilitation exercises, developed by Angela Plescia and Martina Profeta.
