Digital design is transforming many industrial and application fields, making processes more measurable, repeatable and integrated. In the medical sector, and especially in the design of personalized devices, this transformation opens up new possibilities: from 3D data management to the modelling of complex shapes, through to the definition of more efficient and controllable workflows.
This is the context for the collaboration between Teoresi and Hexagon, for which we are a reference partner for the distribution of software products. Our role stems from our direct knowledge of these technologies and our ability to support their application in concrete projects: we help companies, research teams and students choose the right tools, build workflows and develop high-value solutions.
A case study combining research, 3D modelling and concrete application
One example is the case study developed from the research project by Giulia Cairo, a master’s student at Politecnico di Torino, dedicated to the digital design of personalized orthopaedic braces for patients with idiopathic scoliosis.
The project addressed a very concrete challenge: making a complex process more efficient and repeatable, where 3D modelling must integrate anatomical, functional and clinical requirements. In this context, technology can support specialists’ work by reducing certain manual activities and simplifying the management of the digital model.
Throughout the project, Teoresi provided engineering know-how, technical tutoring, dedicated spaces and complementary technologies. With the support of Andrea Orlando, Products and Solutions Engineer at Teoresi, Geomagic® Freeform® was used as the main tool for 3D modelling, within a complete workflow that starts from digital data management and leads to the development of the brace model.
The method developed supported the digital design of orthopaedic braces, making some phases smoother and more repeatable.
The value of the project emerges above all from the results achieved in the workflow: around 71% of the process was fully or partially automated, with a 59% reduction in the overall processing time. This figure clearly shows how the integration of advanced digital tools can make design more efficient, controllable and replicable.

We supported Giulia Cairo in defining and implementing the workflow, providing our technical expertise together with software tools, spaces and tutoring. Our goal was to help her build a complete process, enhancing the potential of Geomagic® Freeform® and integrating it with other technologies available at Teoresi that were useful for the development of the project.
