NanoAnalyzer

Speeding Up Brain Trauma Diagnostics

A Teoresi Group project
Project

INTA, in collaboration with Teoresi MedTech, has developed the NanoAnalyzer, a device designed to revolutionize the diagnosis of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) through a simple blood test. Ideal for use in ambulances, emergency rooms, and remote areas, the device enhances access to diagnostics, particularly for pediatric and vulnerable patients, while reducing unnecessary tests and optimizing intervention times.

Scenario

Currently, the diagnosis of brain injuries relies on costly and invasive CT scans, with 90% yielding negative results. The NanoAnalyzer detects six specific biomarkers of traumatic brain injury through a simple blood test, delivering rapid, non-invasive, and precise results. This is made possible by using Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology and artificial intelligence algorithms.

Teoresi MedTech supports INTA in developing the reader, ensuring seamless integration between the cartridge and cloud infrastructure, optimizing system efficiency, and enhancing real-time diagnostic data management. Specifically, Teoresi MedTech has managed the hardware and software design for the entire measurement process, prototype development, and obtaining RED certification.

Challenges

The main challenges of the NanoAnalyzer project center on clinical validation, regulatory compliance, and market adoption. Clinical validation is a crucial step to confirm the device’s diagnostic efficacy, particularly in a highly competitive field like traumatic brain injury (TBI) diagnosis. This process will require passing rigorous clinical trials to obtain essential certifications, including the IVDR certification expected by 2027.

For Teoresi MedTech, which supported INTA in the development phase, the key challenge was designing and creating a device with a high level of technological innovation that could be brought to market and scaled for large-scale production.

Our added Value

Teoresi MedTech’s contribution has been pivotal in overcoming the technological challenges typical of deep tech startups. INTA, founded on advanced academic research, faces the complexities of engineering and industrializing the NanoAnalyzer, transitioning from prototyping to large-scale production. This process demands a highly specialized engineering approach to ensure reliability, precision, and scalability.

With extensive experience in complex systems integration and medical device development, Teoresi MedTech supports INTA in optimizing the NanoAnalyzer, facilitating seamless integration between the reader, cartridges, and cloud infrastructure. Teoresi MedTech’s expertise is essential to transform the product into a comprehensive, market-ready solution, addressing challenges in hardware design, data management, and compliance with medical standards. This support accelerates INTA’s industrial development process, reducing technological risks and enhancing the overall quality of the diagnostic system.

Results

Thanks to the collaboration with Teoresi MedTech, the anticipated outcomes of INTA’s NanoAnalyzer project are set to revolutionize brain trauma (TBI) diagnostics and beyond. With the ability to detect six specific biomarkers from a blood test, the device will offer a rapid, non-invasive, and portable diagnostic solution, drastically reducing the need for costly and invasive CT scans.

Key benefits include increased efficiency within healthcare systems and reduced hospital costs, accompanied by a significant improvement in patient experience, especially for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, through early and accurate diagnosis. These outcomes will contribute to making the healthcare system more sustainable and overall, more effective.
